Martin Luther King Jr. Opinion Writing by Ms. Beaumont's 2nd Grade Class
Second graders in Ms. Beaumont’s class at STME have been working hard writing opinion pieces about Martin Luther King, Jr and MLK Day. Here is some of their work:
Martin Luther King is great and he changed the community really well. Also he understood other people’s feelings of how the laws were made. I also think that he made a difference. He turned the rule of white people being treated better to both whites and blacks being treated good. That is why he is great. –Jasmine G.
On MLK Day we should do stuff to help people. And to stand up for ourselves against bullying. Another reason is to show that we care for each other. That’s what we do on MLK, Jr. Day. –McKenna J.

MLK did a lot to change the world. He made special speeches to make the world more better. One of the most popular speeches is I Have a Dream. He made people get along. So black and white people made peace not harm. He changed the laws. He made it so black people could sit wherever they wanted on the bus. Martin Luther King, Jr. changed laws. Because he made a lot of speeches about that black people didn’t have the same rights. He also thought all people should have the same rights. He stood up for the black people because they didn’t have the same laws. –Tyler J.
MLK, Jr. changed the world to make it a better place by saying some stuff that involves we should be able to have black and white people not separate on busses and trains. I think Martin Luther King, Jr. was a very important man. Well, if you think that too, you might want to know how he did it, well I think this, 1. He saved the world by doing a big speech. He took a chance. He also saved the world by getting the whole world to listen to him and by that, he did change an unnecessary law. If he didn’t stop that before I was born, I wouldn’t be a very happy girl. And that’s why I think MLK was very important! –Paige O.
