A Wacky Wednesday at Legacy of St. Michael

The senior community residents and workers welcomed some pint-sized characters for candy, cookies and a spooky story.

"This is one of the best days of the year around here," said Rick Huntington, executive director of the Legacy at St. Michael. "A lot of smiles."

And why not? The halls of the St. Michael retirement community were filled with characters of all shapes and sizes, most age 6 or under, as they participated in a "Trail of Treats" around the Legacy.

After a trip around the building, kids settled in for cookies and punch as resident and longtime Albertville Elementary librarian Rita Stahlman read a few spooky selections to the bunch.

It's become an annual event that both young and old can look forward to.

"We had about double the number of kids this year, easily," said activities director Kari Christner, who helps organize the event. "We have volunteers running around with bags of candy this time, helping fill people's bowls. I'm hoping we have enough."

The fun at the Legacy continues tonight with a Legacy Family Fun Night, which will include food, music and a performance by a local clown.

Even was in on the act, greeting guests in a Mickey Mouse outfit.

"It's a great day," he said with a smile.
