A new eye clinic has opened in Albertville, and the timing couldn’t have been better.

With the current uncertainly at , Tom and Emily Schwartz have swooped into the community with Albertville Eye Care, fulfilling a longtime dream.

“We met in optometry school in California and both got jobs in the Rochester area in 2005,” shared Emily, “We’ve been there since, but have been hoping and wanting to eventually open our own clinic.”

Both Emily and Tom have their doctorate in optometry and office manager, Mandy Kurth, is a certified optician.

“We’ll have an optician here every day, all day, and then I’ll be here for appointments and eye exams,” said Tom, who is currently filling in for Emily during her maternity leave at Lens Crafters in Rochester – at least on the days he’s not at the Albertville office.

The commute from Rochester to Albertville is pretty rough so far, but the couple is planning on relocating in this community as soon as their home in Rochester sells. “It’s been on the market and we’ve had showings but we just need that one,” said Emily.

“We were attracted to Albertville because it’s a growing and young community,” said Tom, who added that they had originally looked at the property and space nearly three years ago. “We ended up coming back to it because we liked the area.”

The reduced rent helped as well. “The price of the space three years ago was much higher,” Tom shared.

The clinic has been open less than a month and business is starting to trickle in.

“We’ve gotten a lot of unhappy patients, but we just need to get the word out there that we are open and ready to serve,” Tom said.

“It’s a slow time of year but as the fall approaches and then winter, things will pick up. Eventually we’d like to expand and build on the patient base,” explained Emily.

Albertville Eye Care is located in the Shoppes at Albertville Crossing between Metro Dentalcare and Goin’ Postal. Their website isn’t up quite yet but they accept walk ins and can also be reached at 763-497-2115.
