Developing Story: Deal for CineMagic Could Be in the Works
The movie theater, which has been vacant since 2010, could find a new use if a deal is struck soon.
St. Michael Community Development Director Marc Weigle told the St. Michael City Council Tuesday a deal for the former Cinemagic Theater could be in the works, and a purchase agreement is possible.
"We don't have a lot of details at this time, but we do know the broker is working with a buyer, and he feels like something could happen," Weigle said.
The property has been vacant since Cinemagic walked away from the building in September of 2010, allowing more than a dozen creditors to come into the theater and claim collateral, from theater seats to screens and other materials.
St. Michael Fire inspected the building with city staff recently and said the building is still in good shape and up to code.
Weigle said there is a lender doing "due diligence" with the possible buyer at this time.

We would love to see this building come back to life. We had three birthday parties and saw dozens of movies here. We miss it!

Yes, I second Maureen's comments. We'd LOVE to see it come back and would definitely see movies there (if it's a theater) or support the people who restore it. Opening a restaurant next to it would be especialy advantageous to everyone as statistics show that movie theaters and restaurants both benefit when they are in close proximity to each other. We need more dine-in restaurants in STMA: Chili's, Olive Garden, Champp's, etc...mmmmm. Praying that the discussions and sale go well. :)

I couldn't agree more with the first 2 comments. If the theatre were to make a comeback our family would definitely attend a film regularly. We have only lived in St. Michael for about a year but before living here we would drive up once a week from Minnetonka to catch a good movie on the big screen. We currently drive to Rogers to see movies but would love to start seeing them again here in St. Michael. Keeping our fingers crossed. :)

I am 100% behind that! I am a mom of 3 young boys and we visited often and hope something great is in the works!
