How Much Snow Fell in the Twin Cities, Anyway?
Most areas received more than a foot of the white stuff, the most that has fallen in one December day here since 2010.
It was as if Mother Nature had her eye trained right on the Twin Cities.
Or, at least U.S. Highway 12 through Minnesota.
The majority of the Twin Cities area, including St. Michael, received a foot or more of snow in the December 9 storm.
Amazingly, that's in the Top 30 for one-day totals in Minnesota history, or at least as far back as people have observed that sort of thing officially.
While it pales in comparison to, say, the Oct. 31/Nov. 1 1991 blizzard, it packed a punch.
Ask Montevideo, about two hours west of the Twin Cities, which officially measured 20 inches of snow Sunday evening.
Winter has officially begun.
