Mary Kiffmeyer: Running for Bachmann's U.S. House Seat 'Definitely' a Possibility

The state senator for St. Michael-Albertville told MinnPost Bachmann's announcement came as 'quite a surprise.'

State Sen. Mary Kiffmeyer (R-Big Lake) told MinnPost Wednesday morning she hasn't yet decided but that running for the congressional seat held by U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) was a possibility for her.

Bachmann announced late Tuesday that she will not seek re-election in 2014 (see YouTube video and read a full transcript at St. Michael Patch). Kiffmeyer represents District 30 in the Minnesota Senate, including St. Michael and Albertville.

From MinnPost: The state senator from Big Lake, former state representative and two-term secretary of state said the possibility is “definitely there. There’s no decision, yes or no. ... [Bachmann's announcement] was quite a surprise,” she said.  “I was anticipating her running again and winning again.” Kiffmeyer characterized Bachmann’s announcement as “thoughtful. I’m just glad she made a decision in time for there to be an opportunity for a good replacement.”
