An Otsego man was arrested last week after he recklessly shot a gun at home and assaulted his fiance when she tried to wrestle the gun away.

Andrew Vincent Merhar, 29, allegedly told the woman that he "would not go down easily and would initiate a suicide by cop situation," according to a criminal complaint filed by the Wright County Attorney's Office. He was arrested Jan. 29.

When Wright County deputies arrived, the victim was hiding in an upstairs bedroom with her two children, ages three and seven.

She told police she heard a gunshot and went downstairs to get the gun away from Merhar. Merhar allegedly punched and choked her, but she was able to get the gun away. He then followed her upstairs and pointed a long-gun at her before she called 911.

The victim was transported to Mercy Hospital by ambulance. Police found several handguns, rifles and bullets in the home.
