POLL: How is the St. Michael Area Electorate Voting on the Two Amendment Issues?

St. Michael area voters will be part of a pair of high-profile amendment issues. Patch asks: How are you planning to vote on these issues?

Minnesota voters will head to the polls next Tuesday to vote on a pair of amendments that could, if approved, be added to the state's constitution.

The first is a question that will ask voters to decide if the state's constitution should define marriage as a man/woman union.

The question reads:

Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to provide that only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Minnesota?

The second question would require all voters at Minnesota polls to provide a state-issued form of identification.

The question reads:

Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to require all voters to present valid photo identification to vote and to require the state to provide free identification to eligible voters, effective July 1, 2013?

I'm voting NO on the marriage amendment because it is a fundamental question of equality: Do we believe in liberty and justice for all, or don't we?

I'm voting NO on the voter ID amendment because there are too many unknowns about how it will be implemented, what will constitute a valid, government-issued ID, how much it will cots, and whether same-day registration will be eliminated. If we need election reform, let our legislature and governor work out the details BEFORE we vote on it, not after.

I'm voting yes on both. This equality and diversity stuff is way past it's prime. We are seeing countless times where diversity and equality have harmed rather than helped. As far as the marriage amendment, there is far to much misinformation out there. Some people believe it bans gay marriage when in fact it tells the courts they can only recognize marriage between a man and woman.
As for the voter ID, it specifically outlines in the bill what is an acceptable ID. Our voting laws are attrocious, and believe me, cheating goes on.

My guess is it's only accepting one vote per post, because of the way our system tries to block "double-voting." Didn't think of that when I posted two polls to the same article.
I'll try to fix that.

Did you check it? I just voted and my vote went to the wrong option. Seems kind of like the woman who voted in the early voting and had to push the button 3 times before her vote went to the person it was supposed to go to...

I'm voting NO on both.

On marriage - I don't believe in adding things to the constitution that LIMIT the freedom of fellow citizens, whether you agree with how they live their lives or not. Any church should be allowed to not marry anyone they don't want to, but the legal government document should allow the freedom and benefits to all consenting adults regardless of the sex of the other consenting adult they love.

On voter ID - I agree conceptually with requiring ID, but I have yet to see enough thought and data put into the implementation, costs, etc.
