Reward Offered for Information on Murder of Cold Spring Police Officer

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office is still looking for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for crime.

Spotlight on Crime announced Monday that a reward of up to $100,000 will be offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for the shooting death of Cold Spring Police Officer Tom Decker.

Spotlight on Crime is a non-profit organization fund that offers cash rewards to help solve violent crimes.

Decker, 31, was shot and killed Nov. 29 while on-duty, doing a welfare check at a Cold Spring apartment near Winner's Bar. He died at the scene.

The intial suspect was released from custody after investigators discovered he was "not even close" to having connection with the murder.

Investigators also have not found the 20-gauge shotgun beleived to be the murder weapon.

"Investigators hope the reward encourages someone to come forward with information," a Spotlight on Crime statement read. "Investigators are also urging Minnesotans, particularly residents who live in the Cold Spring area of Stearns County, to walk their properties in search of a 20-gauge shotgun."

Police officers from all around the country, including Wright County Sheriff's deputies, attended Decker's December funeral.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office at 877-782-5683 or the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension at 877-996-6222 or bca.tips@state.mn.us.

Spotlight on Crime was established by Minnesota businesses in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and state and local law enforcement officials.

Didn't we read where earlier that Mr. Decker was pushed around by an unknown person in the local establishment and employee, Mr. Larson, who assisted the police officer to separate the two. Could it be that whoever this unknown person was involved in this previous encounter may be involved in some kind of unfinished business towards Mr. Decker?
