Sequestration Could Hurt Thousands of Federal Workers, Retirees in MN
Minnesota has about 59,000 federal employees and retirees. See where they’re located and which agencies they work for in Patch’s interactive table.
Washington, D.C., may be the hub of the federal workforce, but Minnesota has tens of thousands of federal employees and retirees who could be hurt by the looming sequestration crisis.
If the president and Congress can’t strike a deal by Friday, a series of mandated federal budget cuts would automatically kick in. That would force more than a million federal employees to take unpaid leave, according to the Washington Post.
Minnesota, alone, has about 59,000 federal employees and retirees. Wright County accounts for 589 of that total. Most of those are federal retirees or Agriculture and Postal Service employees.
Use the table above to see how many federal employees and retirees Minnesota’s counties have. Just use the search box to select the county you’d like to see then click on “Details” in the results to see which agencies they work for.

This drastic, draconian spending 'cut' (sequestration) isn't even a cut at all. It's less of an increase than budgeted. We're actually going to spend $15 Billion more this year than last. If we can't handle this little drop in the bucket of a cut, our chances of ever having a balanced budget are zero.
The politicians are attempting to make the 'cuts' in the most painful and obvious ways possible. For example, threatening to lay off teachers, firemen and police officers and cut military training budgets rather than laying off some mid-level bureaucrats whose jobs are less visible and wouldn't even be noticed by the public at large.
