so is there a place where we can look at some of the philosophies of the candidates? I know these are nonpartisan positions, but it would be nice to see what their views are for the community and city we live in

I am running for city council to fight against the political culture over over-taxation, wasteful spending, and the burdensome regulation of private business and property. I will work hard to eliminate spending that is wasteful or ineffective. I will fight to lower your taxes, not raise them. I will work to eliminate "Big Brother" city ordinances on businesses and private property that are burdensome, unnecessary, or outdated.

It at least says something about Cody Gulick to go out on a limb and reply. I cannot find much about the others except for the incumbents have a record in the city.

Mr Gulick you should be ashamed of your slander and lies that you have been handing out on your campaign, this truly brings a whole new low to politics. If you had any self respect you should be going to deliver a personal apology to Mr Schumm.

The Rest of the Story -- If anyone should apologize, it should be Chris Schumm. He's attempting to sell himself as a fiscal conservative who says that he will work for lower taxes - when reality is - he has already said that he will vote to raise property taxes when the St Michael budget is approved.

Mr Anderson, just one Council member does NOT have the authority to raise taxes, if they raised taxes, I am sure it was thought out, and done because of a reason. You need to get a grip on reality, nobody likes taxes, unfortunately we all have to pay them, yes less is always better, but we can't avoid it. The school and the county make up the large majority of your tax bill here in St Michael, NOT THE CITY! I believe our Council does a great job, I want to personally thank them for St Michael having the lowest tax rate in Wright County!

Rest of the Story -- true- it takes 3 city council members to approve a budget and to increase the levy -- however, its alreadyknown (by his own words) that Schumm will approve the increase. He is taking credit for St Michael having the lowest taxes even though he has had absolutely nothing to do with that. What can be stated is that Schumm and Schoen along with Mayor Zachmann all voted to spend $300,000 of taxpayer money for infrastructure without having a locked down deal that will recoup the money. That is terrible fiscal policy - and I don't want a council setting policy precedent in such fasion - despite the desire to fill up the downtown area with development.
I never said that the Council or the St Michael city staff hasnt done a good job in the recent past. But after last years' property tax bloodbath (county, school, city increases) where many property owners saw double digit increases - I believe all elected officials need to be held to higher standards to justify those property tax increases.
And lastly, stop with the insults -- you lose lots of credibility that way

I am surely certain that the city council did not go out on a whim. I looked it up in the minutes from what you are talking about with the $300,000, it was to be accessed back to the lots.

I dont believe the city council spent taxpayer without thinking that it would be repaid...however there is no 100% guarantee that it will be repaid and over what time frame? Just as importantly, it's very bad policy to be using $300,000 of taxpayer money for premature infrastructure development - even if Medici does come through. in the future.

Al-Totally agree on all points.
I think it's time for a shake up in the city council. I won't be voting for anyone who currently has a seat.
