St. Michael-Albertville Just For Kids Teacher Receives Teacher of the Week Award

KS95 DJ Shannon was in St. Michael Wednesday to present Charise Schutz her award.

Last Thursday, Just for Kids teacher Charise Schutz got a surprising phone call. She had been chosen as KS95's Teacher of the Week.

"I was just so surprised and in disbelief," she shared last Friday. "It was almost to the point of embarrasment, I'm a preschool teacher."

Ms. Charise, as her students call her, has been teaching preschool at Just For Kids for the last three years. She'd previously taught Special Education in the Osseo district.

The parent who nominated Ms. Charise asked to remain anonymous, but shared that "Ms. Charise has an admirable passion for working with children.  It is very clear in her day-to-day interactions with her students that this was what she was meant to do."

The parent went on to write in her nomination about just how much Ms. Charise goes above and beyond for her students and their parents.

"I love getting to know the students and their parents and sharing life events with them," Ms. Charise said.

Recently they've been talking about deployment and new baby siblings, as those are some of the preschoolers happenings.

Ms. Charise was presented her plaque Wednesday from KS95 DJ Shannon, and will also be invited to a special event at the Science Museum in May where she will have the chance to win $1,000 for herself and for the Just for Kids program.

I know Charise from Scouts - her son is in my Den. She's not just a fabulous preschool teacher - she's a fabulous mother. Her son is one of the nicest, most respectful and just wonderful young men I have ever met. Clearly - she has a gift for shaping lives and helping children thrive!

What a fantastic story!! We met Ms. Charise several years ago when we toured the ECSE preschool which at that time was housed in the Community Ed building. She was teaching in the class we visited and the second we met her - we fell in love with her. We've been blessed to have had her as a teacher for both of our kids (1 at the ECSE preschool and 1 at Just 4 Kids) and cannot say enough wonderful things about her (and her family)! And as someone stated above, she's also a fabulous mom - we've had her kids babysit several times and they are impressive, respectful, well-mannered kids who are always on the top of list of sitters to call. So way to go Ms. Charise - you deserve this!! Congrats!! :)
