St. Michael Catholic School Raises Thousands with Marathon

It's an event that's occurred for almost as long as there has been at Catholic school in St. Michael. The goal for this year's "Marathon" was to raise more than $75,000 for the school.

It's been a month, but "family" of parents, students and staff have started this year off with one successful bang.

The annual "Marathon," which has evolved from kids walking through the community to raise to a completely different sort of event, raised more than $80,000 for the school, according to principal Jennifer Haller.

"It's just an outstanding effort by a our families and friends," she said.

The event now consists more of kids walking around the St. Michael Catholic School campus, rather than the old treks through the community several years ago. Kids get credit for each lap, shooting for 26 trips around the school. Along the way, they can win prizes, including a lap around the school in a wheelbarrow.

There were some lighthearted moments. Fr. Peter Richards arrived in a golf cart dubbed the "Priest Mobile," in homage to the "Pope Mobile." Kids also dressed in different colors, unique to each class.
