Five Things St. Michael Parents Can Do With All That Candy

Before that sugar high even starts, here's a few ways to get rid of that Halloween candy.

As I write this our kids are eagerly counting the minutes until trick-or-treat time. Chocolate bars, gummies, suckers and even an occasional popcorn ball will fill their bags. I'll dig through their bags tonight and pull out my favorites; Junior Mints, a Milky Way or two and some Twizzlers.

It's all fun and games until we're sick of eating it, and we're ftired of the sugar high our kids would like to live on.

Here's a few ideas for how to get rid of all of that Halloween candy and quick:

1. Bring it to work. This doesn't work if you work from home.

2. Donate it to school or church. Check in with your child's teacher. Maybe they could use some candy treats for an upcoming party or some prizes. Same goes for church.

3. Buy it from your child. Is your kid one that just will not forget they have 328 pieces of candy in that bucket? Make a deal and offer them a price. Maybe its per pound or per piece.

4. Contact your dentist. Some dental offices do a Halloween candy buy-back like this one in Hopkins.

5. Send that candy to troops overseas. Thank our soldiers by giving them a taste of home. Check into Operation Gratitude for more information.
