It is hard to find a person these days who doesn't have at least one tattoo. Males, females, teenagers—they all seem to have some kind of ink. Small stars, crosses, butterflies, tribal, oriental, in memoriam, there are so many to choose from. Then once you choose your tattoo, or design, where do you put it? Do you pick your shoulder? Your back? So many decisions to make. So Patch wants you to post photos of your favorite tattoo(s). We want to hear why you picked the tattoo you chose and its meaning to you. Haley Foucault’s accolades on the dance floor are no stranger to anyone. Now, she’s pirouetted her way into one of the finest ballet schools in the world.
It’s a long way from St. Michael-Albertville High School to lower Manhattan. And we’re not talking mileage. Haley Foucault’s been dancing since the age of 3. She’s put in more hours on point than many have on their own two feet. She’s hopped in carpool vans at 11 p.m. despite the fact she was out past legal curfew (she just turned 16 a week ago) and she’s done homework until 3 a.m., when she’s literally passed out at her desk. But all of that – not to mention the summer intensive dance camps, the total lack of social life and the injuries and heartache that comes with competition – paid off with one breathtaking routine in New York. Every day during April 2013 you can support a budding St. Michael karaoke star in his bid to win prize money for the Special Olympics. Adults, teens and children are invited to a performance by vocal group The Half-Steps at the St. Michael City Hall Council Chambers on Tuesday, April 17, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The Half-Steps have been performing before central Minnesota audiences for more than 12 years. Their set list runs the gamut from barbershop to doo wop to Elvis and Dean Martin. The attendance limit is 40 and preregistration is required. This event is co-sponsored by the Crow River Senior Center. It is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann also invited district artists to submit pieces to a congressional competition and announced plans for mobile office hours April 10, 2013, in Waite Park.
U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) didn't let up in her criticisms of Obamacare recently (see Storify above or at Storify.com). But she did take time to meet with fire fighters from Minnesota and to issue an invitation for artists in the Sixth Congressional District (which includes St. Michael and Albertville) to submit works of art to a congressional competition (see video here or at YouTube.com). Bachmann also announced she will hold "mobile office hours" at the Market Place Building, 110 2nd St. S., second floor, Waite Park on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Call her Anoka office at 763-323-8922 for an appointment. Students move on to compete in the National Scholastic Art Awards for portfolio submissions and individual art pieces.
St. Michael-Albertville School District students earned keys that may open doors to a future career in art. The students brought home 28 Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards (MSAA) awards as "silver keys," "gold keys" and "honoroble mention" for individual entries and portfolios. "MSAA recognizes many of our state's most creative teenagers and offers scholarship opportunities for graduating high school seniors," stated the MSAA website. The competition is open to all Minnesota students in grades seven through 12. Results were announced in February, and an awards ceremony takes place Sunday.
