30 Pictures in 30 Days Photo Challenge - Day 8

The theme for day 8 is closeups.  Not macro necessarily (unless you are equipped with the proper equipment to do so), but try to take some close up shots of your subject.

If your subject is a child, perhaps take some close up shots of their eyes, face, finger or toes.  You might even try taking some close ups of some of their favorite things.

The weather is mild today, so another idea might be to get outside and take some close up shots of your environment around you.
Another fun idea is to take some close up shots of jewelry.

Have fun!

Honestly, I'd take the Peanut Butter Fun Cake over the pizza. Both in terms of eating it and the picture. The cake shot has a really nice focal point (hard to do with a macro shot of pizza when covered in cheese). You are right, your DOF is a little shallow. I do this sometimes, too, and what makes it obvious is this little super sharp piece of cake in the front that is surrounded by a lot of blur. Isn't it weird how it almost makes it look separated from the rest of the picture (the sharp portion)? This happens the most to me when shooting newborns in studio with a shallow DOF. I'll look and see that a spot on their blanket in front is actually sharper than their face.

I don't know..the pizza was mighty tasty! I did shoot these at F1.8...really should have been between about F2.2 and F2.8 or so. That still would have yielded plenty of out-of-focus area to help separate the slice of cake from the rest of the frame. I guess I was in too much of a hurry to dig into the cake!

This was taken with the Nikon D80 and the AF-S DX 35mm F1.8G lens.
