Albertville City Council Election Recount Results in Tie

With one vote seperating Albertville City Council candidates Mark Barthel and Larry Sorenson, a subsequent recount resulted in an actual tie. A challenged ballot will go before council tonight.

The saying "every vote counts" couldn't be more true Thursday at a recount of votes for Albertville City Council. The recount resulted in an exact tie between incumbent Larry Sorenson and Mark Barthel — each receiving 1,116 votes. Candidates were allowed to challenge any ballot during the recount, when election judges went through more than 3,400 ballots at Wright County Courthouse. One ballot was challenged, and the challenged ballot will go before the council at tonight's 7 p.m. meeting at Albertville City Hall. Sorenson will abstain from voting on the matter. A vote by the city council tonight will determine who will be declared the winner, when the council will consider who the voter intended on voting for on the challenged ballot. …

How St. Michael Voted in the 2012 Election

Voters in St. Michael broke overwhelmingly for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, while sticking with familiar names for local offices.

If you were a Republican or a familiar face, chances are you did well in the Nov. 6 election here in St. Michael. Voters at both St. Michael precincts broke in huge numbers for former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan when it came to the presidential ticket, while Rep. Michele Bachmann and state candidates Mary Kiffmeyer and David Fitzsimmons also fared well. In Precinct 1A (west St. Michael), Romney/Ryan received 62 percent of the vote, or about 2,400 votes, compared to 1,378 for the eventual winner, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. In Precinct 1B (east St. Michael), the GOP ticket picked up 3,343 votes, compared to 1,817 for Obama/Biden. The only Democrat to get traction in St. Michael was…

St. Michael Only Patch Community to Support MN Marriage Amendment

St. Michael voters came out with the "Yes" majority when it came to the Marriage Amendment questions on Tuesday's ballot. Voters in the mostly suburban cities Patch covers were more opposed to the constitutional amendment defining marriage.

Here's how residents in a selection of Minnesota cities voted on the ballot measure that would have added a definition of marriage as only between one man and one woman to the state Constitution. Statewide, the ballot measure failed to exceed the 50 percent level of support it needed in the Nov. 6, 2012 general election. It got 47.53 percent, according to unofficial results from all but two of Minnesota's 4,102 precincts' results. Taken together, people in cities served by Patch—mostly in the Twin Cities suburbs—rejected the marriage amendment in greater proportion (61.21 percent) than Minnesotans taken as a whole (52.47 percent). Support for the amendment in places covered by Patch ranged from 14.51 percent in Southwest Minneapolis to 54.…

How did your city vote on the constitutional amendment to require photo ID to vote?

Here's how residents in a selection of Minnesota cities voted on the proposed Voter ID amendment to the state Constitution, which would have required photo ID at polling places.
