More About St Michael Catholic Church
The "new" St. Michael Catholic Church is home to more than 400 families and was constructed in about 15 months in 2003-2004. It opened with fanfare on Christmas in 2004 at a cost of more than $11 million.
The church is a symbol of unity for East and West churches, Orthodox and Catholic. It includes an iconic statue of Michael the Archangel outside of the entrance, with a pantheon of paintings and icons inside the church. The huge gathering space is in the semi-round, with a marble altar in front. The historic altar was "rescued" from Nazareth Hall at Northwestern Bible College in St. Paul.
The site also includes a large narthex area for gatherings, classrooms for Sunday school in the basement as well as gathering spaces for the St. Michael and St. Albert youth groups. A child care facility is also downstairs, along with youth activity offices and parish offices.
