Staff, City Leaders and Dignitaries Break Ground on Legacy at St. Michael Expansion

Building officials from Trident Development are hoping to have 24 new units built before Fall of 2014.

Less than two months after Albertville broke ground on its new, senior living community, its neighbor to the south dug up some dirt in honor of an expansion set to roll out at the current senior community in St. Michael.

Legacy at St. Michael announced it would be expanding its facility back in late summer, and received approval of its plans from the St. Michael City Council at its first meeting in September.

The current facility, which has just under 50 units, will be expanded to house another 24 units at the facility. It will be located just to the east of the current building, and should be on a "fast track" according to Trident Development, who was the major contractor on the initial building of the Legacy facility.

Monday's groundbreaking was attended by the majority of the city council and staff from St. Michael city offices, Rep. David Fitzsimmons and new senior center director Vonnie Waters.

The expansion could be completed and open in the summer of 2014.

The Legacy of St. Michael is an independent living, assisted living and memory care active adult community for those 55 and over, according to the business website. Plans for the new addition expand the facility into more areas of acute care for seniors, including additional hospice.
