Sea Devils Swimming Hosts Disabled Swimmers in a USA Swimming Sanctioned Open Meet

On February 9, 2014, Sea Devils Swimming hosted a regular season swim meet with multiple competitive swim clubs participating at the St. Michael Middle School East pool.  The Sea Devils have hosted many of these types of meets.

But on this particular Sunday afternoon, a new swim club with 10 swimmers from the Minneapolis Courage Center was one of the many teams participating.  With this team participating, the Sea Devils Open Meet became one with the largest number of disabled swimmers participating in a regular Minnesota Swimming meet.

The disabled swimmers, who train at the Minneapolis Courage Center, swam and competed side-by-side with able-bodied swimmers.  They swam freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke.  And like all the other young swimmers there that afternoon, they were just as excited about their accomplishments and their abilities to be competitive swimmers.

The Courage Center trains its athletes within WSUSA (Wheelchair and Ambulatory Sports, USA), and NDSA (National Disability Sports Alliance) guidelines, and is applying to become a sanctioned USA Swimming club.

Person before the disability. This should read something like "swim meet held for swimmers with disabilities" ;)

I should add that I know the intentions are good - just trying to help.
