St Michael Students Compete in National Taekwondo Competition

Three students from World Taekwondo Academy’s St. Michael-Albertville location competed last week at the United States Taekwondo Association National Taekwondo tournament.  The event took place in San Jose, CA, and hosted several thousand competitors.  Josef Sinkule (age 9), Grace Sinkule (age 12), and Kaeden Arjoonsingh (age 11) each competed in the Sparring category, and Josef and Grace competed in Poomsae (forms), all in the highly competitive Red Belt division.

Josef made it to the quarterfinals in sparring, where he was defeated in a tight match.  Grace made it to the finals in sparring, where she won the silver medal in a very tough match.  Kaeden won a bronze medal in sparring, in another very tight match.  The athletes are coached by excellent World Taekwondo Academy instructors: Mr. Matt Lee of the Rogers location, Master Shipley of the Osseo location, and Grandmaster Lee of the Maple Grove location.  Grandmaster Lee is one the US Olympic coaches in Taekwondo.  The students train under Master Hoth in St. Michael.

This was first trip for each athlete to the National event.
