Blizzard-like Conditions Expected Around St. Michael Saturday

Yet another "clipper" system will bring snow and high winds to rural areas early Saturday, making travel difficult.

Hockey Day Minnesota may have hit its first and most dangerous snag: a winter storm.

Up to 4 inches of new snow could hit the St. Michael and Elk River areas by Saturday morning, followed by winds of 30 to 40 mph, as the National Weather Service has issued its third Winter Weather Advisory of the week for Wright County and the entire Twin Cities area.

Snow of nearly 5 inches hit the St. Michael area Tuesday morning, making the commute a miserable mess. Then, late Wednesday, another shot of snow dropped about an inch on the area but was ushered in by high winds, causing another terrible trip home for drivers.

Now, the weekend looks to be bumpy, as this advisory runs from midnight Friday night to late Saturday evening.

Travel conditions will be tough, particularly in open areas, with more than 6 inches of new snow on the ground from this week alone.

Here's the notice from the National Weather Service in Chanhassen:
