Gauging the Aftermath of Snowmageddon 2.0

Patch writer Samara Postuma gets out and about the day after eight inches of snow dropped on St. Michael-Albertville.

Today is the day after the (last?) big storm of the winter, the sun is shining and people are out again.

Yesterday's freakishly big snowstorm kept families in St. Michael-Albertville tucked in their homes with the roads slick and the wind blowing mounds of snow everywhere.

St. Michael resident, Stacey Anderson, left home only for a coffee from the drive thru Monday.

“No one was out and for the first time ever I was the only car at the Caribou drive through,” Anderson said. “The roads were terrible – snowy and slushy. I got home and stayed home after that little trip.”

Caribou Coffee in Albertville considers the snowy President's Day one of their slowest days of the new year. Employee Alicia said “We were overstaffed thinking that with kids out of school, some of those kids and parents off work would come in, but we were wrong. It was dead.”

After a confirmed eight inches of snow – according to the St. Michael Department of Public Works – the communities of Albertville and St. Michael seem to be up and moving again.

School is back in session. There is a line at the post office. The Caribou Coffee drive through is bustling and even the shops at Albertville Premium Outlets are getting some rebound business after a slow President's Day.

“The roads are still slick and icy” Anderson reminded. “But that’s not keeping me in today. The sun is shining and it’s time to get back out there.”
