Get Involved With St. Michael-Albertville Group Training for Minneapolis Marathon

A local running "team" is training for the October race, raising money for a global cause.

Chances are one of, if not all these three items, are on your bucket list for 2011.

• Help folks in need at home and abroad

• Get in top physical shape

• Run a marathon

All right. Maybe the last one is questionable, but many of us do harbor that dream on our to-do list for life.

Here is your chance.

One of your own Patch writers – Lisa Peterson – is forming a team to run the Twin Cities Marathon set for Sunday Oct. 2.

We are running as TEAM WORLD VISION – raising money for World Vision and all the wonderful work they do all over the world.  World Vision provides water to desert communities, food for refugees, help to the Japanese quake survivors and help to our own neighbors here in the twin cities.

What are your requirements?  You need to register for the race, buy a team race t-shirt, raise money (no set minimum) and show up on race day!

Team World Vision provides you a free fundraising webpage, all the possible training materials you could need, a group run every Saturday morning starting now and going up to race day, team get-togethers and a huge amount of encouragement from your team captain and the larger Team World Vision organization.

Approximately 300 folks from all over the metro will race the Twin Cities Marathon in the bright orange Team World Vision shirts.

Typical marathon training programs run 18 weeks – we have 25 weeks. Even if you have never run a single step in your life – you can do this marathon. We can help you.

On the fence?  Watch this short clip and see if it sways you.  More than three out of four Team World Vision runners are newbies to the sport when they sign up.
