Heavy rain headed toward St. Michael area

Get set to get wet

The St. Michael and Albertville area could see as much as three inches of rain over the next 60 hours, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service.

Wet weather is expected to move into the area late today, bringing the possibility of some severe summer storms and almost certainly heavy rainfall Monday night through the entire day Tuesday.

Rain of more than one inch is forecast for Monday and Monday evening, with an additional two inches expected to fall throughout the day Tuesday and into Wednesday morning.

This is bad news for area farmers, who already have soggy fields from one of the wettest months of May on record. Unseasonably cool temperatures last month and throughout stretches of June have also plagued the growing season.

“There are portions of fields you just have to give up,” one farmer told St. Michael Patch.

Hail and high winds are also possible.
