July 2013 Events, Programs at the Crow River Senior Center

Here is a selection of some of the events for July 2013 at the Crow River Senior Center in St. Michael.

The Crow River Senior Center is open to all seniors and focuses on serving the communities and surrounding areas of Albertville, Hanover and St. Michael.

Open Painting

Find out what's happening in St. Michaelwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Join others who like to paint. Share ideas or set aside time create. Bring your supplies and project you are working on.

When: 9 a.m. to noon; first Monday of each month – July 1 and Aug. 5

Pre 4th of July Party

Celebrate the 4th of July on July 3. Wear something red, white and blue and join others for a picnic style meal and share Independence Day Trivia.

When: Noon, Wednesday, July 3

Cost: $3.75

Where: Crow River Senior Center

Registration: Register by 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 2

Wood Carving Group

The group invites all levels of carvers from beginners to advanced. The more experienced carvers assist the beginners. Roy Whitney, a St. Michael resident coordinates the group.

When: 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, July 3 and 17; August 7 and 21

Cost: None

History Discussion

Get together with others that share this interest. The group meets on a bi-monthly basis. Topics could be selected dealing with American History, Civil War, World War and more. The group meets the first and third Tuesday.

When: 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, July 2 and 16; August 6 and 20

Cost: None

Eighth Annual Senior Center Picnic

The center will furnish hamburgers, brats and beverages. Following lunch, play bingo sponsored by the Wells Fargo Bank of St. Michael.

When: Noon, Monday, July 8

Where: Settler’s Park in Hanover

Registration: RSVP by Wednesday, July 3 and include your meat of choice.

Writer’s Group

Try your hand at recording your memories, writing poetry, short stories, etc., then join the writing group. Open to everyone, no experience needed and no charge. The group meets twice a month on the first and third Monday.

When: 1-2:30 p.m. Monday, July 1 and 15, August 5 and 19

Cost: None

Memorial Blood Center Blood Drive

The Memorial Blood Center will be holding a blood drive at the St. Michael City Center. This event is co-sponsored by the Crow River Senior Center and St. Michael American Legion Post 567.

When: 2-6 p.m., Monday, July 15

Where: Chamber Room St. Michael City Center

Balance, Falls and the Senior Population

Kelly Sanborn will be presenting at the Crow River Senior Center. She will be discussing the topic of balance and falls as it relates to the senior population. Sanborn will highlight factors that increase the risk of falls, as well as ways to minimize those risk factors. Sanborn is a Physical Therapist practicing at Phenomenal Rehabilitation in Saint Michael and Wayzata.

When: 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 1:00 pm.

Plan the Menu for September and October

Do you have some favorite foods you would like to see on the lunch menu at the Crow River Senior Center? Drop off your suggestions at the Center or plan to come for the menu planning event as participants plan the menus for the months of September and October.

When: 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23

Cell Phone Basics

Joe Paskvan of Verizon Wireless St. Michael will share cell phone basics, short cuts, tips and features. Be sure to bring your own cell phone and questions

When: 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 30

Cost: None, call the Crow River Senior Center by Friday, July 26th to register
