Line of Severe Storms Bearing Down on St. Michael, Albertville

The first wave of severe weather expected this evening was making its way through areas west of St. Cloud. The storms were moving southeast along Interstate 94.

UPDATE - 9:44 p.m. CDT: The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Eastern Wright County until 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

A massive front with high winds and heavy rain is expected to arrive in Wright County this evening before 10 p.m. Destructive winds of 70 m.p.h. have been associated with this storm. 

Cities included in the warning are Buffalo, St. Michael and Albertville.

The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the St. Michael and Albertville area, but residents could expect that to become a warning before the night is done. 

A line of severe weather was forming through eastern and central Minnesota this evening, running from as far north as Itasca and as far south as Brookings, S.D. 

The storms were expected to bring high wind, some hail and heavy downpours. A couple of tornados had also been spotted in eastern Minnesota Sunday evening.

The latest warnings (around 8:30 p.m.) were issued for Stearns County (St. Cloud area).

AT 806 PM CDT... RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS... CAPABLE OF PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL AND DESTRUCTIVE WINDS IN EXCESS OF 80 MPH. THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM SAUK CENTRE TO KERKHOVEN... AND MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH. CONTINUE TO STAY ALERT FOR POSSIBLE TORNADO WARNINGS.

LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE... SUNBURG... NEW LONDON... SPICER... HAWICK... PAYNESVILLE... ALBANY... FARMING... ROSCOE... HOLDINGFORD... MANANNAH... AVON... RICHMOND... GROVE CITY... EDEN VALLEY...

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. IF YOU ARE IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM... PREPARE IMMEDIATELY FOR DESTRUCTIVE WINDS... WHICH CAN UPROOT TREES... DOWN POWER LINES... AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO ROOFS AND WINDOWS. EVACUATE MOBILE HOMES AS THEY MAY BE OVERTURNED. LARGE HAIL IS ALSO EXPECTED... WHICH CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO VEHICLES AND WINDOWS. SEEK SHELTER NOW INSIDE A STURDY STRUCTURE AND STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN PRODUCE TORNADOES WITH LITTLE OR NO ADVANCE WARNING. PREPARE TO MOVE TO A PLACE OF SAFETY IN A STURDY STRUCTURE SUCH AS A BASEMENT OR SMALL INTERIOR ROOM IF A TORNADO IS SPOTTED.

THIS STORM HAS A HISTORY OF PRODUCING DESTRUCTIVE WINDS. SEEK SHELTER NOW INSIDE A STURDY STRUCTURE AND STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS!

REPORT ANY SIGNIFICANT WIND OR HAIL DAMAGE TO THE NEAREST LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY... FOR RELAY TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.
