A system carrying heavy precipitation is headed for the west metro Saturday afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch, in preparation for heavy rainfall.

The Naitonal Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a Flash Flood Watch for much of east central and southeastern Minnesota, including the suburban Twin Cities, as a major weather system takes aim for the metro this afternoon and evening.

As a result, the flash flood watch was issued Saturday, warning drivers to watch out for flooding roads.

According to the NWS statement:

TWO BATCHES OF HEAVY RAINFALL HAVE OCCURRED ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH AREA SINCE FRIDAY MORNING. RAINFALL TOTALS IN THESE AREAS HAVE RANGED FROM ONE TO THREE INCHES ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTH CENTRAL MINNESOTA...MAINLY SOUTHWEST OF THE MINNESOTA RIVER VALLEY...TO AROUND ONE HALF TO ONE INCH ACROSS THE REST OF SOUTH CENTRAL AND WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA SINCE FRIDAY MORNING.
