Shannon Simon Bringing New Yoga Class to Crow River Senior Center
No foolin' ... seniors will like this way to work out the "kinks," set for the morning of April Fool's Day.
Mention the word "yoga" to a senior citizen and you're likely to get a wry smile, or an eye roll, and a comment about "maybe in my younger days."
There aren't any "maybes" anymore.
Shannon Simon, a local yoga instructor, is bringing a new, targeted yoga class to the Crow River Senior Center at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 1.

Simple stretches, some done from the comfort of a chair, will help seniors increase blood flow to extremities, improve balance (which is great for preventing nasty falls), and improving agility to keep doing every day tasks with ease, Simon said.
"It will leave you feeling relaxed and energized all at the same time," Simon said. "There's no floor work, or complicated exercises. This isn't an everyday fitness calss."
Simon said it's normal for anyone to feel nervous, particularly a senior who might not have worked out much beyond walking on a track or through his or her neighborhood. But the Crow River Senior Center is a safe environment, and similar classes in other communities have proven to be a pretty big hit.
Joyce Flury, head of the center, said she's getting positive feedback already.
"I think we'll have a good turnout. It's a lot of fun," she said.
