St. Michael Community Gives Over 150 Thanksgiving Meal Baskets

Volunteers aimed to help every family have a Thanksgiving meal to look forward to.

A group of St. Michael and Albertvile volunteers on Saturday made it a point that Thanksgiving is not only about giving thanks, but also about giving to others.

Several community groups gave away more than 150 Thanksgiving meal baskets to families who are struggling to put a nice holiday meal on the table. The St. Michael Lions Club, St. Michael-Albertville Family Youth Community Connections (FYCC), and the St. Michael-Albertville Rotary Club came together for the effort.

"We had lots of great volunteers that made this happen," said St. Michael Lion Chris Schumm. "I am happy to say we made over 150 area families holiday a little brighter!"

Baskets included a 15-pound turkey, five pounds of potatoes, stuffing and all the fixings.

Schumm said the event was "a huge hit." The Marketplace in St. Michael and Bob Enright helped the groups get the food at a discounted rate, and ordered, stored and staged the food for the event, Schumm said.

"Bob's efforts went above and beyond as always," Schumm said.

Sandy Greninger helped get a donation from United Way to the St. Michael Lions to make the event possible, he added.

The group, excited to start the giving season, put together more than 150 meal baskets in 30 minutes, and gave away the baskets at The Marketplace parking lot.

"It was a huge success," Schumm said. "Everyone there had a great time."
