St. Michael Equestrian Rides to AQHA World Championship

Chad Little and Hickorys Irish Gold rode their way to gold in Houston last weekend.

Chad Little of Saint Michael, MN, captured the world championship title in open cowboy mounted shooting pistols at the 2012 American Quarter Horse Association Cowboy Mounted World Championship Show on March 3 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Little owns the American Quarter Horse, Hickorys Irish Gold, who is a 2004 bay mare.

Hickorys Irish Gold was shown and ridden by Chad Little, of Saint Michael.* Hickorys Irish Gold, sired by Hickory Ginnin Peppy and out of JBS Golden Nugget, was bred by Lindy Barron of Okotoks, Alberta, Canada. Pat Little is the owner.

In the open cowboy mounted shooting pistols, 19 entries competed for world champion honors. Little and Hickorys Irish Gold received a prize package that included a custom-designed gold trophy, courtesy of AQHA Cowboy Mounted Shooting World; sterling-silver buckle with 14-karat-gold-overlay, courtesy of Montana Silversmiths; specially designed logoed jacket and world champion patch, courtesy of Cripple Creek Outerwear; neck wreath and Justin Boot certificate.

The AQHA Cowboy Mounted Shooting World Championship Show is an event for American Quarter Horse owners and exhibitors around the world, who must qualify for cowboy mounted shooting by earning a predetermined number of points or participating at AQHA-approved cowboy mounted shooting events. The AQHA Cowboy Mounted Shooting World Championship Show was held in conjunction with the Pfizer Versatility World, March 1-3, at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The 89 entries at this year’s event represented competitors from 21 of the United States, Argentina and Canada.
