St. Michael Family Hosts Annual Haunted House Tonight

Mike and Lisa Fox love Halloween, and their hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind haunted house is living proof.

"It's the ultimate kid day," St. Michael resident Mike Fox said about Halloween. "What's not to love?"

Each year Mike and his wife, Lisa, transform the three car garage of their home on the corner of Janett and 42nd Street Southwest in St. Michael into an ultimate haunted house. Each year continues to get bigger and bigger.

"I think this year is easily two times the size of last year's," Mike said. The two started doing this when they moved in in 2007, since then it has grown and changed a lot. "The first year was pretty weak," Mike said.

Their yard is full of gravestones and Halloween props, and all the neighborhood kids love when they see the decorations come out.

"We create quite the buzz when kids get off the bus and see we've started decorating," Lisa said. "I hope our neighbors like it!"

The two, along with some friends and co-workers, work hard on the haunted house all year long. They change it every year and continue to think up new and different things.

"We start making a list of ideas throughout the year and are always making new props," Lisa said.

Last year, the two estimate that 300 walked through. The couple decided to invest in a counter for this year.

While it is a scary haunted house, it's open to all ages. Tour guides can alter some of the walk but parents need to use discretion.

"I can't tell you if your 8-year-old can handle it or not, only you can decide. But, we do have tour guides who can tone it down or rev it up as needed," Mike said.

The haunted house is open Halloween night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and is open to the public. Admission is free, but the Foxes do ask guests to bring a non-perishable item for the , if they can.
