STMAY Youth Hockey Teams up with 'Survivor' Star for Fundraiser

A visit from the 2005 champion of the CBS reality show highlights a day of activities at the arena Saturday.

Looking to raise funds for a proposed second sheet of ice at the St. Michael-Albertville Ice Arena, the STMA Youth Hockey Associations and Sideline Chic are teaming up for a "Second Sheet Fun Day" fundraiser, set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct 26.

Sideline Chic is a line of fan apparel designed by one-time "Survivor" reality television show champion Danni Boartwright, who won the famed Guatemala Season.

Now off of CBS, Boatwright, who did some stints in sports media and has a sports background (her father is a longtime coach), has teamed up with two fellow owners to start Sideline Chic in the Kansas City area.

" My Dad was a coach, my brothers were star athletes, and I was a competitive athlete from the time I was a little girl," Boatrwright said in a bio submitted via Sideline Chic. "I'm a sports nut."

The day will also feature a special skate with the Knights and RiverHawks Bantam and U14 clubs for all skaters under 12, a visit from Minnesota Wild Mascot "Nordy," face painting, a Chuck-A-Puck contest and dozens of give-aways.

Sideline Chic will be selling STMA customized shirts, sweatshirts and more, available for any sport (not just hockey).

"It's an opportunity to get the word out [about the second sheet project] to everyone through an exciting day, and to raise some money toward that ice in the process," said Adam Smiglewski, local business owner and one of the project's organizers. He's also a hockey board member.

STMA Hockey has been tasked with leading the fundraising for a second sheet here in St. Michael-Albertville after lengthy discussions between the hockey board, advisory committee and the three government entities in the area, including both city councils and school board.
