Valentine's Day Party Warms Up Center on Cold Week

Seniors can also register for a free blood pressure check, among other activities at the Crow River Senior Center this week.

The Crow River Senior Center will continue to offer AARP Tax Aide appointments for seniors and low-income individuals on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon through Friday, April 15.  Appointments are needed and can be made by calling the center at 497-8900.  There is no charge, but donations to the center are appreciated.

The Joy Knit and Needlecraft group meets at 9 a.m. each Monday. Bring a project you are working on. There is no cost.

The writing group will meet on Monday, February 7 at 1 PM.  New and experienced writers are welcome.  There is no charge.

Free blood pressure checks will be offered on from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8 at the center. Shirley Hagerty provides this service.

Bridge will be played at the Center on Tuesday, February 8 at 1 PM.  New and experienced players are welcome.  There is no charge.

Free eyeglass adjustments will be offered from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9. The service is provided by The Eye Care Center of St. Michael.

A Valentine party will be held at the center Friday, Feb. 11.  February birthdays will also be celebrated. Call the center to make a luncheon reservation. Those with February birthdays receive a complimentary meal.

The February pot-luck will be held on at noon Monday, Feb. 14 at Albertville City Hall. Bring a dish to share on a winter day or maybe a red salad or dessert for Valentine’s Day. There will be games, prizes and surprises. Cost is a donation.  Call the Center to let us know if you plan to attend.

Plan to come to the Center at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15 and join the fun of playing Wheel of Fortune on the Wii.

The Busy Hands Craft Group will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16. The project will be a Mouse Treat Holder. The cost is $1. See a sample at the center and sign up by Feb. 14.

Several day trips are being offered through the center. These trips will include pick up at the center building. Upcoming trip include King Tut Exhibit at the Science Museum (deadline to sign up is Tuesday, February 8), Planes and Trains Tour at the Golden Wings museum in Blaine and the Twin Cities Model Railroad Museum in St. Paul.  Other Day trips in the spring will be to Park Square Theatre to see ‘To Kill a Mockingbird," and also a trip to Gertens Greenhouse and IKEA.  There are also extended day trips offered.  Brochures for those trips are available at the Center. Some of those trips offered this winter include:  Arizona Fun in the Sun, Alpine Splendor, California, New Orleans and the Carolinas.  Brochures are available for a variety of trips offered through summer at the Center.

The Senior Center newsletter lists a full schedule of events and trips and the monthly menu.  A copy can be picked up at the Center or to have your name added to the mail or e-mail list call the Center with your name and address or e-mail address.  There is no charge for the newsletter. 

Noon meals are offered at the Center on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The cost is $3.50 for the meal. Reservations will be needed one day ahead. Call the Center for more information and the menu for the day. The Center is also the source for Meals on Wheels in the Albertville, Hanover and St. Michael area.
