St. MIchael's Greene Ready to Rock Toby Keith's

St. Michael resident and K102 voice J.D. Greene and his new duo, Greene and Hurst, make their debut tonight in St. Louis Park.

J.D. Greene’s new band, Greene and Hurst, will debut Friday night at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill, and then will take the stage at Rockwoods in Otsego on Wednesday night.

You may recognize the name and voice of J.D. Greene as the very popular D.J. of the number one radio station in the Twin Cities, K102. However, you may not recognize his face unless you are a big time country fan. Take a good look, because you may have seen this St. Michael resident around town.

J.D. comes from Ohio, but his latest stop in his radio career brought him to Minnesota. It will be three years ago in December when he, his wife Kate and two girls purchased a modest home nestled in a quaint neighborhood of St. Michael. It was a December without snow that year, and his coworkers at K102 had told tall tales of Minnesota winters gone by. They had purchased a snow shovel as a house warming gift, but it looked to go unused. Taking matters into their own hands they set up snow making machines and proceed to cover his driveway with a thick blanket of snow one morning before work. That morning, and the rest of the winter, Greene's shovel got "more than enough use" for J.D.’s liking.

Since then, J.D. and family have enjoyed living in St. Michael.

“I like the hometown feel. The schools are great, and the community feels safe and comfortable” J.D. said. “I like being able to stop at the Corner and talk about the local football game.”

His girls are now both in school and his wife, Kate, has set up a local home based photography business. Now it's J.D.'s turn to start something new and a little different.

J.D. likes country music, riding his Harley and singing. He is comfortable on stage, and his job puts him there. He has brushed elbows with the big country stars of today; Eric Church, Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean, and the rest. He also has shared the stage, singing with many stars including Josh Thompson, Franky Ballard, Lee Brice and even local favorite Tim Sigler. Now he wants to take to the stage with his own band.

Greene and Hurst formed about six months ago. Since then, they have been practicing hard for their big debut this Friday night. The front man for the band will be the lead singer Todd Hurst, with lead guitar coming from  Greene.

The duo actually met through their wives, who went to college together and brought their husbands together knowing their common interest in country music. Todd lives in Golden Valley, and the rest of the band is from Buffalo.

“It nice to have the band local, and we are looking for places around town to play” J.D. said.

He added that they will be playing a "Rockin’ Country style." The catalogue will feature songs from Gary Allen, Eric Church, Montgomery Gentry, Big and Rich, and Brooks and Dunn. They will follow up with a more family friendly performance at Rockwoods, in Otsego, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 12.
