Lose Weight - 3 Easy Tips

Lose Weight with These 3 Easy Tips

I am always looking for the latest and greatest supplements and weight loss programs to keep current for my clients, but occasionally, I step back to the basics and look at what has worked for hundreds of years. Brace yourself, weight loss is about to get easier (and I don't even mention exercise in this article...!)

1. Chew each bite of your food 15-20 times. I was recently reminded of this gem when I re-read "The Maker's Diet for Weight Loss". Chewing your food slowly and completely helps your body recognize when it is getting satisfied, it stimulates the secretion of saliva and other stomach juices AND chewing completely GREATLY aids in DIGESTION. Think about a big hunk of steak trying to make it's way through 25 feet of your digestive tract; that sight only gets more gross when you factor in the bad bacteria clinging to your undigested meat. Chew your food slowly and completely and prepare for your waistline to shrink.

2. Eat more food. Seriously. But let me add "real" with "more". EAT more REAL FOOD. Unless it comes out of a produce package, avoid food that comes out of a package. Eat fruit (organic is best) with every meal and snack up to dinner. Eat vegetables (like them or not) with EVERY meal and snack. Eat real protein (not just the bars and shakes) at EVERY meal and snack. And, pardon me Susan Powter, eat healthy fat at EVERY meal and snack. What are healthy protein options? Meat, dairy and/or beans that are not pumped with chemical hormones, antibiotics and preservatives. What is healthy fat? Raw nuts, cold-pressed oils, wild-caught fish, organic dairy and avocados. Rather than focusing on "I can't eat this or that because it's "bad" for me, focus on all the foods you CAN have because they NOURISH every cell in your body.

3. Drink more water. It is recommended by everyone who knows what is good for you to drink at least half your body weight in ounces every day. Stop and calculate that out. Are you drinking that much water? Water is vital to weight loss because it helps regulate your stomach satisfaction (feeling full) and digestion. When your body is properly digesting AND ABSORBING the food you are eating, your body feels as though it doesn't need as much food! Water is the cheapest appetite suppressor you've ever consumed!!  Water also boosts your metabolism- drinking 12 ounces of water at one sitting increases your metabolic rate by 30% over the next hour! Grab a glass of water and start drinking (filtered water preferably)! Finally, did you know that if you are dehydrated by even 2%, the disks in your spine are at a significant risk for herniation and rupture? If you don't like the taste of water, picture a jelly donut in your spine splitting open because you are not hydrated enough. Damaging your disks are painful and expensive.

We all know what to do to be healthy, right? So why don't we do it? We get busy and distracted. Write these 3 tips down on a sticky note and carry them with you. People who write down and review their goals often are 80% more likely to achieve success!!!

It's so simple sometimes, we forget to do it; front of mind = success.

Whether you have 1 or 100 pounds to lose, YOU CAN DO IT- you were created for more than mediocre health!
