Albertville's InFit/Anytime Fitness Hosts Huge Spring Open House

Warmer temperatures shouldn't mean those New Year Resolutions are distant memories. InFit and Anytime have joined forces in Albertville, and are ready to help residents battle the bulge.

Admit it. You’ve been feeling a little “doughy” lately.

All that cold weather had you hunkered down, inside, grabbing the bag of chips and Vitamin Water (if you’re lucky) instead of heading down the gym.

It’s time to get re-acquainted with the cross-trainer. Time to re-introduce yourself to the BodyPump class leader.

Soon, it’s going to be swimsuit weather.

Yikes.

Anytime Fitness and InFit have teamed up in Albertville, taking up residence in the former Seasonal Concepts location.

Together, they’re offering everything from free weights and nautilus machines to group fitness classes as popular as Zumba and spin.

To get you re-acquainted, the fitness facility will be hosting an open house today (Friday) and Saturday, April 8 and 9. Vendors, instructors, staff and local “celebs” will be on hand from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and from 8 to noon Saturday.

“It’s definitely our biggest days of the year. People are ready to get out and kind of shake off the winter,” said owner Ashley Darkenwald, who pushed hard for her dream of teaming InFit and Anytime.

That dream became a reality when the two joined under one roof in August of last year. Prior to that, InFit had called the old Albertville City Hall (on Main) home, while Anytime operated its 24/7 facility near Pizza Man on 61st Street in Albertville.

The two started teaming up last year, but Darkenwald said “moving from one storefront to the other could get to be a pain, for us and for our customers.”

People would workout, then have to step outside and walk down the strip mall to get to a class. Not necessarily a bad thing in the spring or summer. But toss in some rain or cold weather, and it wasn’t fun.

Fortunately, InFit and Anytime worked to put a plan in place to take over the old Seasonal Concepts spot. That meant a new space, with two new studio rooms for the classes (all part of InFit). The workout area (all part of Anytime) features brand, spaking-new machines and free weights, as well as flat TV’s for those on cross-trainers and treadmills.

“The reception has just been great. People are really glad this worked out,” Darkenwald said.

Serving as an owner and personal trainer, Darkenwald wears a couple of hats. She also has instructors who do the same, with some handling marketing and promotion, while others assist new members with registration.

“We have a great team right now,” she said.

The variety has been a key to the success of the merger, something Anytime – which hadn’t done anything like this before – struggled with early.

But the setup of the facility keeps all the classrooms separate from the 24/7 workout area, providing security for both sides.

“People like the freedom to come whenever they want,” Darkenwald, who grew up in St. Michael, said. “But, they like to have the option of trying out a class or two as well.”
