City Plugs Small Businesses by Establishing Shop Saint Michael Week

Looking to expand promotion of small businesses from one day during the holiday shopping season to a full week, a local organization is getting a boost from the City of St. Michael.

St. Michael Mayor Jerry Zachman has proclaimed the week of Nov. 24-30 as “Shop Saint Michael Week.”  In a proclamation approved by the St. Michael City Council on Oct. 8, Zachman encourages all St. Michael residents to support local businesses by shopping locally.

During Shop Saint Michael Week, Shop Saint Michael member businesses will offer a variety of special offers and attractive coupons to encourage local shopping during this busy holiday shopping week.  These offers will be posted via Shop Saint Michael’s Facebook fan page.

Initiated by Shop Saint Michael, a local non-profit organization representing more than 60 local businesses, “Shop Saint Michael Week” will support and promote local businesses by increasing the awareness of the importance of shopping locally during the holidays and year-round.

In his proclamation,  Mayor Zachman notes that “Shop Saint Michael supports the value, convenience and personalized service of shopping locally” and that St. Michael’s business community “forms the economic structure of our city and is vital to our quality of life and community pride.”

Keeping your holiday shopping in St. Michael is much easier than driving across town to a big-box store, said Peggy Schumm, president of Shop Saint Michael and owner of Peggy S. Schumm, CPA, Ltd.

“You can buy everything you need for the holidays right here in St. Michael, and you don’t have to fight traffic on I-94 or worry about your kids finding a package at the door,” said Schumm.  “You can get your Christmas ham, your Christmas tree, your wreath, your poinsettias, your lights, all of your meal items, your wine, your gift cards, and a present for everyone on your list, without ever having to leave the city.  Just think of the time you’ll save.  You’ll actually have time to enjoy the holidays instead of racing all over.”
