Bible Scripture to Graphic Design: Hanover Mom Launches Online Business

Hanover mom of two, Aimee Libby, wasn't seeing what she wanted to use to decorate her kids' bedrooms and home a few years back, so she decided she'd make it herself. 

"I looked everywhere for what I wanted and couldn't find it," Libby said. So she put to use her graphic design skills that she was typically using with corporate clients and designed some prints and canvasses with Bible scripture and displayed them.

Pretty soon, friends and family were asking where she got them.

"We'd have people over for dinner and they'd always notice and ask and pretty soon I was making things for others," she said.

After doing lots of research into costs of running an etsy shop and how she would charge, print and ship her prints, Libby opened her own online Etsy shop, Red Letter Ink, in March 2011. Etsy is a site to buy and sell handmade or vintage items, art and supplies.

The shop took off.

On average, Libby is shipping out five to 10 orders a week, many of which include multiple prints. Her most popular prints have been adoption prints which she originally created as a gift for someone in her family who was adopting. 

One of her favorite prints is one that she made and designed after finding out her daughter had some special needs a few years back. "I designed a print using Jeremiah 29:11 because at the time I needed that comfort that we have no idea what the future holds, but God does," she said.

The potential for Libby's business is great, "there are so many amazing verses to share from the Bible," she said.

Libby also does professional corporate graphic design but hopes that as her etsy shop continues to take off that she can continue to spend more time doing it.

"I'm using what I love to do to help and bless others, whether that's through donating to silent auctions or selling prints that matter," she said.
