Albertville Closes in on Clerk as it Builds City Hall Team

The city of Albertville is ready to offer the city clerk position and moving forward to fill the city administrator role.

Just a month after terminating city administrator Larry Kruse, the is ready to hire a city clerk.

The ad-hoc committee interviewed four candidates, one of which especially stood out.

"With 14 years municipal experience, in addition to her communication skills and some of her expertise with elections and website management, she really stood out to us," said City Engineer Adam Nafstad in his report to the Albetville City Council Monday night.

The council approved the job offer. If the candidate, who will remain unnamed until she is hired, were to accept the offer, the goal would be that she would start the beginning of June.

The council also has continued to look into options for the city administrator position.

Finance Director Tina Lannes contacted individuals who might be interested in the interim position and of those individuals, one candidate was a potential fit.

"One candidate stood out especially because in all [his or her] years of experience there was nothing [he or she] hadn't seen," Nafstad reported.

City Attorney Mike Couri clarified with the council. "What are we looking for in terms of interim? Is this to be a short-term or long-term position?"

Previously, the idea of moving Nafstad to city administrator role had been discussed and was alluded to at Monday night's meeting.

"If we plan on having an internal candidate for the permenant position, how long do we want an interim to help train him? Personally, I'd like this to go one direction, and that is internally filling the role," Mayor Mark Meehan said.

"The candidate we are most interested in has worked with and trained others in, so would potentially be a good fit," Jillian Hendrickson said.

The council decided that the ad hoc committee will meet with the candidate and get his ideas and options of length of position and move forward.

"I don't have any thoughts either way on filling the role in-house, but it seems contrary to why the ," council member Dan Wagner said Monday night. "One of the key reasons discussed was the lack of bringing business in and [Adam] has no experience [with that]."

I agree with Dan.. The whole idea, as it was explained to the public, was to put someone in the role that has a strong background with communications and business relations and was available and responsive to business complaints and or issue. If the council filla the poairtion internally then the myor and his team mates will have egg on their face.
