Flooding Crow River Shuts Down Key Route To St. Michael, Hassan

For those who commute from the Rogers or Elk River area, Hennepin County Road 144 is a speedy passage into St. Michael. Now, it's two feet underwater.

As creeks, rivers and even coulees in the Crow River area rise with the second river crest, set for tonight, drivers should be wary of water on the road.

The Crow River spilled its banks southeast of St. Michael today, flooding Hennepin County 144 near Hassan Sand and Gravel, and shutting down a road that handles thousands of cars per day looking to avoid busy roads like Highway 101 and Interstate 94.

The route, which joins Rogers and St. Michael on the southeast corner, was closed this morning by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department.

The Crow River Gun Club is also flooded at this time, and water is high near Berning's Mill and around the Crow-Hassan Park Reserve. All park trails are closed as icy water has inundated the low-lying area.

Sheriff's Departments in both Wright and Hennepin County are advising drivers to check routes before leaving, especially if traveling at night. And remember to "turn around, don't drown."
