Nasty Crash on Wright County 19 North of Albertville Closes Road

Traffic on the busy road near 77th Street was diverted as two SUV's collided around 2 p.m.

A nasty-looking crash Thursday afternoon on Wright County Road 19 north of the Albertville Premium Outlets left two vehicles in pieces, but both drivers intact after they collided shortly after 2 p.m.

A driver of a 2004 Toyota 4-Runner turning from 77th Street Northeast onto Wright County Road 19 did not see the 2007 Cadillac Escalade SUV heading north on the busy stretch, and the two cars collided, with the vehicle on 19 moving at about 60 miles per hour. There is a turn lane for vehicles heading east the intersection, so cars going north can proceed.

"I was headed north and I'm not sure what happened. The driver in front of me turned, but I was still heading north on 19. She came out in front of me and I tried to swerve around her, and that's the last thing I remember before the airbag went off," said Steve (last name not given), the driver of a 2007 Cadillac Escalade.

The driver of the Toyota complained of bruising from her seatblet and some injuries to her hands because of the airbag deploying. The Escalade's driver also said he had some abrasions on his hands.

"Could have been much worse. We're both walking away," he said.
