Snow, Ice Create Another Slippery Commute

Forecasters expected the worst weather to hit between 8 a.m. and noon Thursday.

The Twin Cities is dealing with most of what “Winter Storm Walda” has to offer—rain, sleet, slush, ice and snow. Not as bad as in Worthington, MN or a few other places the storm hit—but it has been a rough morning commute, and forecasters said the worst could come later Thursday morning.

The St. Michael-Albertville School District cancels classes for April 11 Thursday morning after snow continued to fall combined with overnight freezing rain.

Icy roads and snow created the usual rash of crashes and spinouts early in the morning commute. Because of ice on overhead wires, buses replaced light-rail service along the entire Hiawatha line in Minneapolis.

The metro has so far had few of the power outages that crippled southwestern Minnesota and South Dakota. But National Weather Forecasters said the worst snow could hit between 8 a.m. and noon.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday.
