Chamber Offers Legislative Events for I-94 West Region in July

The 2013 State of Minnesota Legislative Session adjourned at the end of May and it's now time to review the year's accomplishments and challenges. Understanding these outcomes is critical for anyone involved in business is our state, and the I-94 West Chamber of Commerce is a primary resource for legislative information.

One of the principal activities of the Chamber is our work at the legislative level. The Chamber is part of the Minnesota Federation, a group of more than 40 local Chambers that speaks as a unified voice for businesses in our state. In addition, we serve as a connection between our region's businesses and the issues they face. The Chamber has also been instrumental in recent advancements of the I-94 West Corridor Coalition, testifying several times in support of increased lanes along this critical transportation corridor.

The Chamber's legislative focus is at the forefront over the next few weeks. In late June, members met with local elected officials for a recap of the recent legislative session. Senators Warren Limmer and Mary Kiffmeyer and Representative David FitzSimmons spoke about important topics including transportation and education equity.

During the month of July, the Chamber will offer additional opportunities for our members to become more involved in the legislative aspects of our organization. Many of the communities of the I-94 West Chamber of Commerce, including St. Michael and Albertville, are part of Minnesota's Sixt Congressional District, and we are pleased to welcome Congresswoman Michele Bachmann as the featured speaker at our Congressional Luncheon at the Holiday Inn in Otsego on Friday, July 12. Cost to attend is $25 for Members, $40 for Non-Members. Register to attend by Wednesday, July 10 by calling the Chamber office at 763-428-2921 or email ahandshaw@i94westchamber.org.

Members are invited to attend a Health and Transportation Focus Group with the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. The Minnesota Chamber would like to hear how issues related to health and transportation impact your business, and your input will help shape policy and strategy as we look ahead to 2014. This event will be held at the Chamber office on Wednesday, July 17 from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. Please call the Chamber office at 763-428-2921 for more information on these important events.
