10 Things to Photograph This Christmas

Professional photographer Maris Ehlers creates a photo list for this holiday season.

There are tons of ideas and suggestions for holiday photo ops, so I thought I would just mix things up a bit and give you a list with a twist, so here it is my pixelation loving friends:

10 Things to Photograph This Christmas That End with "IONS"

10.  Preparations - Whether food prep, decorations before they are up or any other prep "work" for the holiday can be a great photo op AND a wonderful way to store a memory as well.

9.  Decorations - get in close and grab some detail or at least a different perspective.

8.  Celebrations - This one's pretty obvious!

7.  Connections - The holidays are all about connecting with loved ones. Don't miss it!

6.  Generations - This one is important. If you have family together and there are multiple generations present, this is a great time to snap a few pictures of the generations together and separately.

5.  Traditions - Traditions are really fun to photograph, even newer ones!

4.  Productions - Cooking the family meal can certainly be a production in many homes, and for others it might be capturing an image of a child singing at a holiday service. One year, my favorite Christmas photo ended up being one of my father-in-law on the wii fit for the first time. Hysterical!

3.  Foundations - This word can mean different things to different people. Capture what it means to you.

2.  Discussions - When family and friends get together there are ALWAYS great discussions. Capture one, preferably during an animated moment!

1.  Expressions - I love capturing reactions on people's faces during the holidays. If you know someone is going to get a "wow" gift, try to capture their expression on camera when they first see it or realize what it is.

However you plan to photograph your holidays this year, always remember to take a step back from time to time and simply enjoy the moment and the memory that you are making.
