Buffalo Fire Chief, Former Council Member James Nelson, 84, Dies

Recent deaths from St. Michael, Albertville and surrounding communities.

 

James "Jim" Nelson, who served on the Buffalo Fire Department for 43 years, 19 of which he was fire chief, died late last month. He was 84.

Nelson, who was born and raised in Buffalo, also served on the Buffalo City Council.

Nelson was deployed to the Philippine Islands serving on the United States Army shortly after graduating from Buffalo High School. Nelson held many jobs within the Buffalo community, ranging from ambulance driver and school bus driver for the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District, to owning his business, Nelson Auto Service in Soo Town for 35 years.

Jim was invited to join the Buffalo Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Award for his service to the community. In 1998 Jim and his wife, Arlene Posthumus, were selected Honored Citizens of Buffalo.
