Larry R. Barthel, Lifetime St. Michael Volunteer, Dies

From Knights of Columbus to Toys for Tots, Barthel gave back to the town he loved.

Lawrence R. “Larry” Barthel, St. Michael, died Nov. 25 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis Monday, Nov. 25. He was just 64.

Larry Barthel was a huge community volunteer. The well-known chef could be found serving with the Knights of Columbus or collecting Toys for the St. Joseph Toy Drive in his 64 years in St. Michael. He was also active in the church’s pro-life mission, and served on the St. Michael Historic Church’s preservation committee.

Services were held Dec. 2 at St. Michael Catholic Church. Concelebrants were Father Eugene Pouliot and Father Francis Pouliot, Larry’s uncles, along with Pastor Father Peter Richards.
