A Monticello man was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital Saturday night after he was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Interstate 94 around 10:22 p.m.
According to a report filed by the Minnesota Highway Patrol:
The incident started when Alejandro Merino, 41, of Monticello, lost control of his 1995 Subaru and crashed into the median while traveling east on the interstate near the County Road 37 interchange.
Merino escaped the crash, and then tried to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 94 on foot. He was struck in the right lane by Rhonda L. Hiler, 60 of Maple Lake, who was headed west in a 2006 Lexus.
Hiler was not hurt, but Merino was transported via air ambulance to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. His condition is unknown, but the State Patrol called his injuries "non-life threatening."
The State Patrol's report does indicate "alcohol is suspected as a factor for Person No. 1 [Merino]."
