Mixed Race Couple Subject to Harassment from Otsego Neighbor

A mixed-race couple that recently moved to Otsego has filed no less than seven reports with the Wright County Sheriff's Department, alleging that they've been threatened and harassed by a neighbor.

Residents of an Otsego townhome on Lachman Avenue say they've endured weeks of harassment, presumably from a neighbor who can't accept the fact that they're a mixed-race couple.

The two told their story to Twin Cities NBC affiliate KARE 11 last night, saying the neighbor has verbally threatended them and that their dog was stabbed with a knife.

Demetrius Baker Jr. and his fiancee, Michelle Cardinal, told KARE's Jana Shortall that Baker Jr. was confronted by the neighbor, a white man, and called "a nigger."

They have since installed cameras and a home security system. That didn't stop a burglary, or damage to property recently that included slashed tires.

Wright County is investigating all the reports, and did not want to comment on the ongoing investigation. The couple told KARE 11 they will not move out of their home.
