Remembering 9/11: Amazing Grace, Stars and Stripes at Albertville Fire

A new friend paid tribute to old-fashioned heroes, as a bagpipe tribute highlighted Albertville Fire Department's remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001.

Without a doubt, it was the most poignant moment anywhere in Albertville Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011.

Ten years after the firefighting world was rocked by the loss of more than 340 members of its fraternity when the Twin Towers collapsed in New York City, victims of a terrorist attack never seen before, we all paused to remember.

Curtis Brickman, a new friend from Fargo, N.D., took it a step further.

Joining the Albertville Fire Department's display, with a huge flag hung from Ladder 11 and a picnic table painted to state "Never Forget" in patriotic colors, Brickman pulled out a set of bagpipes and played a rendition of "Amazing Grace."

It was a song heard so many times during the days and weeks after Sept. 11, 2001, as firefighter after firefighter was given his or her last farewell.
